The Kwaeε pavilion in Venice

In the context of the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale, focused on Africa, the triangular pavilion of dark wood designed by David Adjaye takes its place just outside the Arsenale. Kwaeε means forest in Twi, a dialect of the Akan language spoken by millions in southern and central Ghana. The oculi on the striated surfaces create plays of light and shadow, in combination with the perforations on the openwork sides, imbuing the inside, which is sculpted like a cave, with a forest-like atmosphere.
