Shortlisted in the Interiors section of the 2020 FAD Awards, this project by the Murcia firm Clavel Arquitectos – headed by Manuel Clavel Rojo and Luis Clavel Sainz – involves a 2,800-square-meter five-star hotel at Avenida Adolfo Díaz Ambrona, in the Extremaduran city of Badajoz, and includes the main atrium’s connection to the leisure areas and the ground-floor lobby.
The transformation of the four-height atrium, which structures the building, breaks the preexisting symmetry, forming a central space with a play of curvilinear lights and reflections on mirror surfaces. It is here that a huge lamp, over 7 meters high, snakes its way like a cascade of illuminated methacrylate rings. The flowing circuit of light embraces the leisure areas as well as the restaurant and the terrace.
