Samira Rathod Design Atelier, school in Bhadran (India)

The Mumbai firm of the architect Samira Rathod designed this terracotta school building surrounded by tobacco fields in Bhadran, a village in the state of Gujarat, in far western India. It is characterized by asymmetrical arches for which children’s doodles were the inspiration, and by inclined vaults chained together sinuously. The modular composition is based on the repetition of blocks formed by two classroms and a corridor. The double-height main gallery frames the landscape through non-identical curved openings at ground level and linteled arches of different sizes upstairs.
