Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze, ‘Wild Concrete’ and ‘Vertical Horizon’

01/01/2014

Born in France in 1987, this young visual artists’ passion for photography arose after his arrival in Hong Kong in 2008. Fascinated by the density and effervescence of the district of Kowloon, where he lives since 2009, Jacquet-Lagrèze started to portray in his pictures the particular character of the city. His first book, Vertical Horizon, was published in 2012, a contemplative walk along the streets of Hong Kong looking towards the sky; two years later, a second publication, Wild Concrete, explores the spontaneous emergence of vegetation there where the urban planning hasn’t left space for nature. Both series give a brushstroke of hope in the overwhelming landscape of gray concrete.
